Keeping Up to Date with Golfing Events

There are many golfing events which take place throughout the year, on professional and amateur levels, and keeping up to date with the latest events and happenings in the golfing world is of utmost importance to the sport’s die-hard fans.

Whether it’s to catch all the exciting live coverage, participating in sports betting on major professional events, or simply to enjoy the intensely competitive nature of the players, tournaments and championships provide much in the way of excitement and entertainment.

While there are certainly many resources for keeping up to date with the latest golfing news, we have made it our mission to provide information about golf on a professional level, as well as course reviews, and general information about the sport for those keen on participating in playing golf.

Men’s Major Golf Championships

The men’s major golf championships, commonly referred to as The Majors, are the four most prestigious annual golf tournaments in professional golf. In order of date of play, these four major golf events are as follows:

  • April: Masters Golf Tournaments – takes place on the weekend ending on the 2nd Sunday in April – hosted as an invitational by and played at the Augusta National Golf Club in the United States state of Georgia – current champion is Sergio Garcia of Spain
  • June: U.S. Open – takes place on the weekend ending with the 3rd Sunday in June or Fathers’ Day – hosted by the United States Golf Association and played at various courses in the United States – current champion is Brooks Koepka of the United States
  • July: Open Championship – takes place in the week containing the 3rd Friday in July – hosted by the R&A (an off-shoot of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, and always played at one of 10 links courses in the United Kingdom – current champion is Jordan Spieth of the United States
  • August: PGA Golf Championships – takes place on the 3rd weekend prior to Labor Day weekend – hosted by the Professional Golfers’ Association of America and played at various locations in the United States – current champion is Justin Thomas of the United States

Women’s Major Golf Championships

The major golf events and golf tournaments which take place in professional women’s golf parallels that in men’s golf, but is far less stable with many chances taking place over the years. As of 2015, the order in which the professional women’s major golf championships take place is as follows:

  • March / April: ANA Inspiration – an event of the LPGA tour – hosted annually at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California – current champion is Ryu So-yeon of South Korea
  • June / July: Women’s PGA Championship – an event of the LPGA tour – hosted annually at various locations around the United States – current champion is Danielle Kang of the United States
  • July: U.S. Women’s Open – conducted by the United States Golf Association – hosted annually at various locations around the United States – current champion is Park Sung-hyun of South Korea
  • August: British Women’s Open – an event of the LPGA tour – hosted annually at various locations around the United Kingdom – current champion is In-Kyung Kim of South Korea
  • September: Evian Golf Championships – an event of the LPGA tour – hosted annually at the Evian Resort Golf Club in Évian-les-Bains, Haute-Savoie, France – current champion is Anna Nordqvist of Sweden
